European Snail
Xerotricha conspurcata
The European snail is a recent arrival to Santa Barbara in the last few years. When alive, the shells are covered in fine hairs, but these are worn off on dead shells. This is the smallest snail on campus, reaching only about an eighth of an inch. This species can be found washed down the sidewalks in significant numbers during rains, especially by the access gate up to Westmont Rd.
